Elder Care in Havana FL
Sometimes you don’t have time to bust out your journal or do something else time-consuming when you’re feeling stressed. When that happens, you need something that works in a few seconds. You can try one of these, or even ask your loved one’s elder care providers what techniques they use when they need to get rid of stressed energy in a hurry.
Keep a Favorite Picture Handy
If you’ve got your phone with you all of the time, make your favorite picture your phone’s screensaver. You can also keep a printed copy in your wallet or planner so that you always have it with you when you need it. When you feel yourself getting stressed and you can’t get away from the situation, try looking at the picture and letting those good feelings wash over you.
Hum, Sing, or Play a Favorite Song
Sound is another quick way to reduce some of your stress levels. Try finding one or two songs that you really love and that lifts your spirits almost instantly. Keep it right there at the top of your playlist or start singing or humming it when you need some stress relief. It’s not always possible to start belting out your favorite song, of course, so try keeping ear buds handy, just in case.
Sniff a Favorite Scent
Smells can calm you or inspire other feelings right away, which is one of the reasons that aromatherapy is so powerful. Find a scent that works for you and then try either lighting a candle or finding a perfume that includes that scent. Then you can simply add a dab when you need some quick scent relief. Keep in mind that scents can be overwhelming for some people, so you may need to go easy with the scents if you’re out and about.
Pet a Dog or Cat
Lots of studies have supported the fact that pets can help to improve your mood, reduce stress, and even help with depression. When you need a quick boost of stress relief, just petting a dog or a cat can have the same effect. Some people find that other animals can help, too, so if you have a bird or some fish, try spending a few minutes interacting with them to get some of the same results.
Keep a Tasty Treat on Hand
Taste can help you to get rid of some stress, too. Try popping a mint in your mouth or even a square of dark chocolate. You’ll get an antioxidant boost and you’ll have the rich chocolate taste. Coffee or tea can also help, but if you’re jumpy, maybe try decaffeinated versions instead.
Try some of these quick ways to reduce your stress when you can’t find a friend to talk to or take the time for a walk.
